In preparation for the  WBCCI Spring Maintenance Rally in Bennett, we discovered a broken drain pipe in the closet next to the galley.  Actually, it was broken in several places...one of which was almost impossible to get to without disassembling the entire bathroom...under the tub/shower unit!  As it was, we had to cut the PVC in two places, plus the two broken spots to get the section out to work on it.

This was in such an awkward tight spot, Rob's shoulders and arms couldn't fit in the 15" wide closet & under the shower unit.  So, Shari put on her "Josephine-the-Plumber" hat and went to work.  She cut out the old broken sections with a 6" section of a hack-saw blade...it was the only thing that fit.  Then repaired the breaks with new PVC connectors and reassembled the sections of removed pipe with new rubber connectors. Well, it got done in the eleventh hour, just in time to hit the road. I couldn't really get a picture of the area where it was broken, it was at the "Y" where the bathroom sink drain joins up with the shower drain...but here are some of sections that are exposed after the repair....these aren't where it was broken, just where we needed to cut the PVC to get to the problem.

After the rally, the floor got cleaned-up, new linoleum installed and Shari built a shelf for added storage and also to help protect the plumbing from future breaks.

Looks tidy & clean now...

During the Rally we filled the water tank for the first time.  We discovered that the water pump didn't work.  Mechanically it worked fine, however the 38 year old rubber diaphragm leaked, pumping water all over the rear compartment.  So we used buckets of water instead of the faucets...at least the drains worked and it was only for a weekend!

Here's the old pump in place...and after it was pulled out.  Rob hasn't wanted to part with the "orignal" pump, because "it's stock".  Although, he was encouraged by the rally folks to "mount it on his workbench or install it as artwork" if he really couldn't bear to get rid of it!

Check out those new vibration isolators...obviously, no longer needed!

Our fellow Denver WBCCI Unit members said it would be more expensive to re-build the original pump than to get a new state-of-the-art unit...so, off to Camping World again!

We decided on the Shurflo 2088-422-44

While everything was apart, Rob also installed a "T" connector to make winterizing easier in the future and the brass elbow fittings at the pump to help minimize the potential for kinks in the braided nylon hose....and here it is installed.

A lot more room in there now!

Afterwards, we realized  that a low voltage switch needs to be installed in order to take the pump offline while using shore power...

Update August 2002...at the VAC Rally we discovered that the switch inside the trailer next to the heater cabinet switches between the pump & shore power...we always wondered what that one was for, now we know! Always learning something new....
