Well, we were fortunate to have decent weather over the weekend, a little snow left on the ground, not too bad for the beginning of February....so, we went to work. We took all the cushions out so we could get the sizes for an estimate on the new foam... We also thought we'd try to wash the covers to see if they could "get by" for awhile...or at least they would be "clean" if we decide to only use them for patterns...
What a mess!!!
And of course, Lily wanted to help!

These photos show how faded the upholstery is... The fabric ranges from a not-too-bad turquoise to yuck!
I do like the fabric...it's original, too bad it's so
faded....& stained And they didn't look much better
after washing them...
Learn from
our mistake...DO NOT WASH THE UPHOLSTERY...even though it is 100%
Polyester, it shrinks!!!
Now I can't use the
covers for a pattern...I ought to have known
better!!! |

The 38 year old foam had a texture somewhat
reminiscent of biscotti...Rob still has foam dust in his
ears!

We are having new foam cut for the side-gaucho only right now...until we decide
what to do the front gaucho/dinette...it's too expensive to do it
twice! |

Well...we finally got the cushions...yipee!!!

We used a local company & they did a terrific job!

Update 6/13/03!!! Well, after "living with" Maxwell through a season, we realized a few things we "wished were different". One of those being a better solution for storing the bed linens during the day. I hated having two entire cupboards filled up with pillows & the duvet. So, I decided to make a zippered bolster to store the duvet in which now allows the pillows and sheets to be stored behind the back cushion against the wall.
This just finishes it off, adds some color and solves the problem! We just roll up our comforter in the morning & stuff it in. |
