Well, the cabinets are not perfect but they are original!

So we decided to see if we could just replace the damaged/missing t-molding and touch-up the finish.

Before...

The original t-moldings had warped, shrank and become brittle over the years and a section was missing in front of the sink.  Besides, the counter, heater cabinet & folding table all had different styles of trim. Fortunately the cabinets were all grooved the same so we could replace all the trim with the same stainless steel instead.

We ordered the t-mold online from:

Update 6/13/03!!!

We tried to order more of this T-molding for our new dinette table...but it has been discontinued!  NOBODY makes it any more...the company that made it for TapeEase has been sold.  Rob called & called, finally reached the man who ran the production line for making this stuff...the machine has been scraped....bummer!  Well, we ordered the #ALU1029P-P instead...it looks the similar, just aluminum instead of stainless steel and it has to be cut on the back to make the corner turns.  We haven't decided yet if we will go back and replace the stainless steel trim so it all matches...that would be a low priority project.

This was easier than we thought it would be .

We just used a block of wood and a rubber mallet to secure it in the groove...a perfect fit!

The trim is actually shiny silver, it just looks black in the pictures.

It was flexible enough to bend by hand without any special tools.

...and after

Next it was time to work on the cabinets themselves.  The original finish is the "pickled oak" so it's really tough to match.  We decided to try and restore it instead of a total refinishing job.

The wood was really dry and just soaked-up the Restor-A-Finish...I used two coats in the colorless "neutral".

After that I used two coats of the Feed-N-Wax which is a combination of orange oil & beeswax. This I plan on reapplying on a regular basis.

It leaves a slight sheen and it smells good too!

These are both readily available at Home Depot.

The wood grain shows a bit more and the color is slightly darker, but it's tough to photogragh the difference.

The end result was just what we were looking for...not perfect, but better than when we started and the original "pickled oak" finish was preserved.

Update 6/26/03!

Each drawer measures 12-1/8"x10-1/8"x3-3/8" deep (including the lip edge) The inside of each drawer measures approximately 11"x9"x3"

.

Please contact us if you have any of these to sell or if you know where I can find 1, 2, 3 or all 4 of them...Thanks!
